What's in a question?

Welcome to our new blog! We’re so glad you joined us – our hope is to share such things as farm updates, recipes or whatever else you’d like to know more about! So please let us know if you have a burning question you’d like to hear more about. We’d love to hear from you!

Speaking of questions…The most popular question we get at the Farmer’s Market each week is surprisingly not about our meat. It is “where are you from”? Or wait, maybe it is about our meat….?

The place that one calls home brings a sense of comfort and security. Knowing that the home where your food is being grown is close somehow brings more peace of mind when it comes to making a purchase; and understandably makes sense. I know at least it does for me when I’m purchasing food to feed my family.

When we started our farm seven years ago, we debated about a name that would be a little piece of both of us. We decided on Back Home Farms for a couple reasons. First, moving to Park Rapids was literally moving “back home” for Josh as this is where he has spent most of his life, his family is here. I was raised on a farm in North Dakota, then spent time living within city limits, so starting a farm was in a sense really moving “back home” for me also. Both of us back to our roots; where our hearts really found a sense of purpose.

So now rethinking it, maybe the most popular question asked of us really is about more than I realized.
